If there’s one thing duck hunters know, it’s that no two seasons are ever the same. Weather up north, water levels here at home, and migration patterns all play their part in how things shake out. With that being said, I’ve got a good feeling about what’s ahead for us in West Tennessee this season.
Last season turned out way better than we expected. A big part of that was our neighboring farms leaving flooded corn and millet for the ducks. When the birds have that kind of food close by, they stick around, and we saw the benefit of it in the timber.
Right now the water is low, but we’ve still got plenty to hunt, and a big rain is headed our way this weekend. The season opens Nov 28-29, 2026, then picks back up Dec 5, 2026 and runs through Jan 31, 2027. The daily limit is 6 ducks, with no more than 4 mallards and no more than 2 hens. Here in the Forked Deer bottoms I expect mallards, gadwalls, pintails, and teal to all be part of the mix.
At WillowTail, we’re keeping the blinds brushed, the decoys fresh, and the coffee hot. This is private timber, not a crowded piece of public ground, so you get to hunt it the way it’s meant to be hunted. After the hunt you can kick back at the lodge, and my wife Ashley will have a home-cooked meal waiting on you.
If you’re thinking about coming to WillowTail, call or text me at 615-306-7002 and let’s get a date on the calendar. Here’s to cold mornings, big flights, and a 2026-27 season we won’t soon forget.
Cheers,
Ryan
